Personal profile

Overview

I am an Associate Professor of electrical engineering and a Senior Member of IEEE. I received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Politecnico di Torino, Italy, in 2015. I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with this university, from 2015 to 2017, and an Assistant Professor of electrical engineering with this university from 2017 to 2020.
In 2016, I was with RWTH-Aachen University, Germany, as a Visiting Scholar, and In 2019, I was with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, The George Washington University, Washington, DC, USA, as a Research Scholar.

Research Interests

I am the Course Director of MSc program in Building Services Engineering, and Timetabling Lead of Civil and Building Services Engineering. I am supervisor of PhD students and external examiner of PhD dissertations in the UK, Italy and Australia. I am also reviewer of funding proposals for EPSRC in the UK and Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions of the European H2020.
My main research interest is the Integration of Sustainable Energy Systems. This includes smart grids application, power system security of supply and resiliency, and multi-vector energy systems. I am specialised in offline and real-time simulations including Opal-RT and RTDS.
I have actively collaborated with international partners of several EC-funded projects including FP7 and H2020 horizons. I had research fellowship to work on projects about security of supply and IoT-enabled smart metering infrastructure. I also contributed to projects on multi vector energy systems including gas, heat and hydrogen. I have been actively submitting research bids and have secured several grants including Bridgend County Borough Council (£200K) and Innovate UK Smart Grant (£1.03M) as Co-Investigator.
I am the recipient of the Manby Prize ICT/GIS/BIM 2020 of ICE in the UK. I have authored and co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed papers published in international journals and in the proceedings of international conferences, and 2 book chapters and monographs. My publications have been cited over 1400 times with H-Index of 21.

I am a member of the Centre for Civil and Building Services Engineering (CCiBSE). Currently, my research is focused on low cost, low carbon, secure energy systems, and I am collaborating with BSRIA LSBU Net Zero Building Centre on this. The Centre is a joint venture between BSRIA and LSBU with the aim of accelerating decarbonisation in the built environment.
