I am currently Course Leader for the Creative Technologies course cluster within the School of Arts and Social Sciences, comprising BA(Hons) Media production, BA(Hons) Photography and BA(Hons) Music and Sound Design, having joined LSBU in 2015. I have taught photography and media in further and higher education since 1993, while maintaining an artistic and research practice. I publish regularly on the intersection between critical spatial studies and networked culture, and have exhibited my artwork in the UK and Australia.
My published research combines my interests in the networked image with critical spatial practice and literary studies, which have both been key interests since my early career. This has recently led me to explore networked images of educational spaces, and CGI representations of sites of knowledge production.
My writings on the politics of the networked architectural image have been published in the journals Philosophy of Photography, the Journal of Media Practice, E-Tropic and Leonardo Electronic Almanac as well as the book On the Verge of Photography, Imaging beyond representation (Intellect Books, 2013.) A chapter critiquing the self-image of the of the modern financialised university through its CGI visualisations was published in June 2022 in the book Co-Curating the Future: Universities and urban heritage past and future. I am a member of the Scientific Committee of xCoAx, and have acted as peer reviewer for Leonardo Magazine and Intellect.
I am also an exhibited artist, and as part of a team comprising games designer Tabea Iseli and artist Alan Warburton, won the Post-Photography Prototyping Prize 2018, organised by Fotomuseum Winterthur (Switzerland) in collaboration with the Photographers’ Gallery, London and the Julius Baer Foundation.
