Personal profile

Overview

I worked as an energy manager for the Houses of Parliament and as a mechanical design engineer for a number of consulting companies prior to joining London South Bank University in 2005, for my doctoral training. As part of my training, I designed, built and tested a novel absorption refrigeration system incorporating a thermally activated LiBr-H2O circulation device, for which I was awarded a doctor of philosophy degree (PhD) in 2008.

Research Interests

I am now working as an Associate Dean (Education and Students Experience) for SBEA. Amongst many innovations, I have researched the use of sustainable abrasive ice particles as an alternative to sandblasting technology for cleaning and restoring historical building facades. My work included developing a mathematical model, designing and manufacturing of components, and testing and commissioning the system.
I have worked tirelessly on many research and consulting projects including; cooling the London underground trains, designing and modelling innovative self-cooling roof structures for hot climates in particular Southern European countries, and investigating and developing food packaging materials with the potential to minimize energy associated with refrigeration of foodstuffs, particularly in supermarkets, carbon sequestration, use of sewage system as a source of energy, Low GWP alternative refrigerants for refrigeration and air conditioning systems, ground and air source heat pump systems, solar-driven cooling systems, adsorption systems and so many others.
I am an expert in the design and modelling of heat exchangers, energy sustainability in buildings and solar cooling systems; areas in which I have co-authored and authored and published a number of papers in conferences and peer-reviewed international journals.
I am passionate about raising awareness of climate change, particularly in developing countries. This involves advising policymakers on how best to reduce their carbon footprint.
