Personal profile

Overview

I am a Senior Midwife Lecturer on the pre-registration programme at London South Bank University. Module leader for modules on midwifery practice, research for Midwifery practice and Perinatal mental health.
I have worked as Nurse and Midwife in the UK, gaining experience in both women's health and Midwifery. My last clinical role was a midwife in a Midwife Led care unit.
Developing a further interest in education has led to my role as a Senior Midwife Lecturer, supporting midwives of the future.

Research Interests

As a full time midwife, I was involved in a project that investigated for example -pre-labour rupture of membranes and eating and drinking in labour.
Completion of my own research project as part fulfilment of my MA led to further research skills on the subject of midwife education and their involvement with receiving education with and from other health care professionals.
In a previous Senior Midwife lecturer role, I was part of the working party that investigated the assessment of clinical practice and modules at pre-registration level that were submitted for validation and became part of the Clinical Assessment Document for the then new midwifery programmes at the university.
Currently undertaking apart time PhD with LSBU on the topic of perinatal mental health.
However, it is within the subject of Midwifery Education that led to the development of study days for the post registration midwifery. I also co-developed national study days on the subject of Perinatal Mental Health, addressing current guidelines, on research and mental health care. I am a member of a team that developed a MSc in Perinatal Mental Health at LSBU that has initiated and collaborated with the Mental health and Occupational Health teams.
I am also a member of the Women's Health Research Cluster at the University that has presented at conferences and seminars on the topics of Perinatal mental health. Planning for further conferences and seminars with further intra-professional collaboration for research in Perinatal mental health is also planned as part of my role in the midwifery division.
Developing support for international partnerships and research networks for midwifery education. My colleague and supported work on the provision of perinatal mental health education for Midwives in Japan.
