Personal profile

Overview

I am a Senior Financial Reporting and Audit Lecturer at LSBU Business School. I joined LSBU this year, 2022, having more than 10 years of international working experience in higher education and industry. I originally studied accounting, completing my Chartered Management Accountant certification, followed by MA in Economics from the University of the Punjab, and PhD in Finance from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China.
I have focused on how country-level formal and informal institutions affect firm-level practices, having found that national-level culture/political structure/financial openness have strong causal relationships with firm dividend pay-out policies/risk-taking behaviour.

Research interests

My recent research projects are the economic and financial effects of COVID-19 pandemic and climate change. The success of my research so far is evidenced by more than 40 published research papers and 3570 citations on Google Scholar. Besides winning several government research grants, I have spoken at various international conferences. Moreover, I led the accounting and finance special interest group as director at the SZABIST. I have also performed duties as external examiner and grant applications reviewer. I have chaired/participated as a member in hiring committees, curriculum review committees, assessment committees, and research seminars and committees among others.
