    Personal profile

    Overview

I am a Professor in Healthcare Practice and Research working jointly with Central London Community Health Care Trust and LSBU.
My role is to develop research capacity and research networks across higher education, the NHS and industry. For example we have recently been promoting health tech opportunities such as the REACT Innovations centre by helping to bring together clinical NHS colleagues, applied health services researchers and engineers in the University. Research Interests

I have experience of designing, conducting and publishing economic evaluations alongside clinical trials in the areas of AI, cardiology, arthritis, stroke, peer support, esophageal reflux, advance directives and the care of older persons. I have also used Willingness To Pay methodology (Cost Benefit Analysis), and managed Cost-of-Illness studies.
I have led on patient safety research around medication side effects, as well as studies measuring attitudes towards suicide and the measurement of mental health related utility using health economic tools such as the Standard Gamble and the Time Trade Off to inform Cost Utility Analyses. I have experience in survey design and with co-investigators have measured staff and public knowledge around self-management in diabetes care.
I started my career in the NHS 35 years ago, first as a General Nurse and then as a Mental Health Nurse. Since then I have had experience working across local authorities, the NHS, with Universities and at National level managing the Research and Evaluation team at the National Patient Safety Agency.

Current research includes leading the design and analysis of an Economic Evaluation of a Nuffield Foundation funded study exploring Transformative Justice and community cohesion approaches for women with convictions.
Recently (2023) with other colleagues from The University of Western Sydney, the Institute of Health Visiting and Central London Community Health we have won an Academy of Medical Sciences networking grant. This grant will facilitate international collaboration between partner organisations conducting research and influencing international policy supporting positive interventions in early childhood.
I provide economic evaluation support and advice on health economic design for the NIHR funded Public Health Intervention Responsive Studies Team at LSBU.
Working jointly between the Trust and the University I have also supported the development of new modules around Homeless Health, Acute Assessment in the Community and Population Health modules to tackle health inequalities.
Since 2021 I have been a Non-executive director for London Cyrenians Housing, A specialist housing provider for people with Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and other vulnerable populations.
