Mrs Christine Jenner Gaskell

Dedicated teaching specialist with extensive experience ensuring students' development and progression in the field of human biology. A fascination with how the body works is the driving force behind choosing to do a BSc in human biology, which gave me the logical workings of the human body. This was then expanded on with an MSc in sport, health and exercise science which allowed me to develop the practical application of how the body works; moves and health implications. Before now moving on to complete my studies with a PhD in Human Sciences which will tie in lifestyle medicine.

My research is looking at the impact of nutrition and lifestyle on the gut microbiome and human health.
This research will incorporate multiple areas which will include nutrition, physical activity, sleep management, stress management, emotional well being and risky substance avoidance.
Research in recent years has shown that the condition of the intestinal microbiota plays a significant role in many diseases through the activation of the inflammatory pathway, oxidative changes, intestinal permeability and the reduction in the microbiota diversity. My research will look at how growing techniques affect the microbiome of crops, as well as how nutrition affects the gut microbiome.
