Personal profile
Overview
I am a senior lecturer in Biomedical Science. I joined LSBU having previously worked in the Institute of Infection and Immunity, University College London as a post-doctoral researcher and the Royal Free Hospital NHS Trust as a lead Biomedical Scientist.
I am a registered Biomedical Scientist and have extensive experience in Medical Microbiology and NHS-linked research which spans over 20 years. I am particularly interested in clinical virology and have published extensively in this field.
I obtained my PhD from University College London having presented work towards a screening program for congenital human cytomegalovirus.
Research Interests
I am a researcher with a strong focus on molecular virology and bacteriology, currently leading projects on vaccine development, novel antiviral therapeutics, and the investigation of host and viral factors that drive viral pathogenesis. My work also extends into antimicrobial resistance (AMR), where I collaborate on studies exploring environmental bacteriology, AMR mechanisms, and strategies for risk reduction.
My primary research has centered on human herpesvirus infections in immunocompromised populations, particularly in solid organ transplant recipients and neonates.
In addition to my research, I serve as a member of the Virology Specialist Advisory Panel and as Chief Examiner for Virology at the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS). In these roles, I contribute to the development of professional examinations, the Specialist Portfolio, and continuing professional development initiatives within the discipline.
