I am a Senior Lecturer in Social Work in the School of Allied and Community Health at London South Bank University. I am a qualified social worker and have worked in both statutory and third-sector organisations. I have worked with adults with disabilities and in the homeless prevention sector.
I gained my PhD while working as a Social Work Lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University. My doctoral research focused on a qualitative ethnography of an adult social work team. Specifically, I investigated the intricate policy translation of a social care personalisation policy known as self-directed support. Throughout this research, I engaged in extensive fieldwork, which encompassed practice observation, conducting formal and informal interviews, analysing documents, and reflecting on my own experiences through auto-ethnographic methods.
Following my time at Glasgow Caledonian University, I worked as Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Queen Mary University. During this period, I contributed to a qualitative study that explored perceptions, attitudes, and beliefs regarding COVID-19 vaccines within underserved populations in East London. To gather valuable insights, I conducted semi-structured interviews and facilitated focus group discussions, aiming to understand the unique challenges faced by these communities in accessing and accepting vaccination.
Through my research journey, I have developed a deep understanding of the intricacies of social work practice and policy implementation. My diverse experiences have equipped me with a well-rounded perspective that I bring to my teaching, academic mentoring, and supervision roles. I am passionate about fostering critical thinking, promoting social justice, and advancing the field of social work through research and practice.
