    My recent work in AI, cloud systems and smart‑city technologies has won over £2 million funding grant income since 2021. I can supervise new PhD students in these areas aligned with current UKRI and Innovate UK funding calls or similar. My research has involved collaborations with organizations such as: Microsoft, Taylor and Francis, Guy's and St Thomas NHS Trust, Marriot Group Hotels, Mayor of London's Office, (Local Authorities: Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham), among others. My focus is projects that deliver technology based transformations that benefit communities.

    Overview

    I am currently a Senior Academic in the School of Computer Science and Digital Technologies at LSBU.

    I've always maintained a full-teaching workload,  a minimum 2-3 modules led/delivered per semester. I practice research informed teaching delivering industry engaged modules.

    My previous roles include, Head of Department for Computer Science and Informatics (2020–2025), where I led strategy, daily operations and overall financial performance outcomes.

    My work delivered £1.2M annual profits and improved the Computer Science, Guardian League Table ranking by 30 places .Strengthened curriculum quality, student experience (OfS 'B' metrics, NSS, GO, all improved),  research culture and external partnerships with industry, PSRB's and local stakeholders.

    My work supports LSBU’s Fit for the Future policy by building supporting a digitally capable, industry‑connected school. 

    Research Interests

    My research is multi-disciplinary, publishing on data science, analytics, AI transformer models, LLM systems, smart‑city mobility  and autonomous systems. My focus is projects that deliver technology based transformations that benefit communities.

    I have 1 complete PhD supervision,  and two incomplete supervisions.

    My research funding bids  have won over £2.5 million grant application income since 2021. LSBU's share of the grants won is over £1.6 million.

    My Co-PI projects —such as: ESF funded educational virtual learning environment development/deployment Dagile1 (ESF - £1M), Delivery of SME virtual learning short courses in partnership with OCN London  Dagile2 (ESF - £0.6M) Local Authority Chatbot tool to support re-skilling SkillBot(£50K) and previoulsy,  a cloud‑based GIS energy mapping project for the Mayor of London's office —demonstrate applied research that benefits real stakeholders: learners, employers and public services. These projects sit within REF  unit of assessment 12 Engineering.

    I transfer knowledge from my research projects into mini-projects for teaching. This helps to develop the next generation of researchers.

    My work aligns with LSBU’s Fit for the Future policy by supporting digital inclusion, deploying disruptive technologies,  workforce development and sustainable innovation.

    Additional Responsibility

    Over the past 5 years, 

    • applying EDI policies, developed/led departmental teams,  utilising approx 45 staff
    • prudently managed £4M–£7M budgets 
    • overseen recruitment, workforce planning and performance management
    • Organised/led open days/conferences/other LSBU events
    • delivered successful PSRB accreditations with BCS and Eng Council.
    • Course Leader / Module leader for  UG/PG
    • Academic Integrity Coordinator for over 12 years.
    • Departmental Timetabling Lead
    • Stage 3 appeal reviews working with  LSBU GovLegal team.
    • Appeals panel Chair / board member.
    • Used my professional network for guest speakers, external examiners/reviewers supporting LSBU Award Boards and PSRB validations.

    These responsibilities support LSBU’s SDGs by strengthening governance, widening participation and building external relationships and utilising industry‑aligned digital capabilities.
