Personal profile

Overview

I am an Associate Professor at LSBU, specialising in Building engineering services, sustainable building technologies and environmental control. With a robust background in engineering and extensive experience in academia and industry, I have significantly contributed to the fields of building performance, energy efficiency, and urban sustainability.

Research interests

My research centres on innovative sustainable technologies for the built environment, with a focus on building performance modelling, air quality and urban sustainability. I have published extensively on topics such as urban utility tunnel resilience, solar chimney ventilation performance, and fire smoke ventilation strategies for metro stations. My work is characterized by its interdisciplinary approach, combining numerical modelling, CFD simulations and practical applications to address real-world challenges in the built environment.
In addition to my research, I have been actively involved in various scholarly projects aimed at enhancing learning and teaching through innovative methods, focusing on the integration of virtual reality and digital platforms to promote sustainable development education. My international engagement includes collaborative projects with institutions like Hua Zhong Science and Technology University, supported by initiatives such as the Global Strategic Partnership Fund and British Council funding.
I have also played a pivotal role in regional development projects, particularly in optimising building plans for SMEs based on lifecycle assessment frameworks. My commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency is further evidenced by my involvement in developing a carbon emission calculation system for building construction processes.
I have secured numerous external research grants serving as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator. Notable projects include the following:
NERC-CDE Network: expert fellow on a project digitalisation and integrating historical site regeneration with green infrastructures.
EPSRC Rehabilitation Technologies Network: Co-investigator for stability assessment of walking aids in home environments.
EPSRC-Women's Engineering Society Ambassadorship: Principal Investigator fostering equality, diversity, and inclusion in engineering research.
I am actively involved in various professional organizations and committees at the CIBSE and ASHRAE, the UK FST Future Leaders Fellow, UUKRI Peer Review College fellow, and the British Standards Institution. I have served as an editor for several significant publications and reviewer for numerous prestigious journals.
My teaching excellence has been recognized with awards, and I have successfully supervised multiple PhD students. Additionally, I play a pivotal role in promoting STEM fields among underrepresented groups, as evidenced by my ambassadorship roles and participation in various diversity initiatives.
