Personal profile

Overview

I am a lecturer within the Division of Human Sciences. I conduct lab-based experimental studies and community-based health intervention research. I teach across Sports and Exercise Science and Biosciences degrees.
I support the notion that Exercise is Medicine and my research centres primarily on the physiological effects of physical activity. My main research interests include resistance training for strength and conditioning, physical activity as a countermeasure to ageing, and enhancing muscle function and exercise performance through using novel interventions.

Research Interests

I recently finalized two research projects: one focused on examining the impact of exercise on the health and wellbeing of older adults, and the other investigated the effects of a novel nutritional supplement on endurance cycling performance, conducted as part of the London Agri Food Innovation Clinic. My contributions extended to a Sport England-funded initiative aimed at reducing inactivity in young females, titled 'This Girl Can with Lambeth.' This project successfully engaged 5000 females in sports and physical activities, providing valuable insights into ways to enhance activity levels within this demographic.
In 2019, I collaborated with the BBC on the documentary 'Truth about Cosmetic Treatments,' conducting a small study on the effects of infrared exercise on fat loss.
Additionally, I collaborate with community organisations and have provided consultation on research and data collection for the charity SilverFit, which creates opportunities for older adults to stay physically active.
