Personal profile

Overview

I joined LSBU in 2016 from Goldsmiths, University of London, where I was a researcher in the Faiths & Civil Society Unit. Here my experience in community development and Sociology combined in research projects exploring the role of religion in the public sphere. Prior to this, I taught RE and Sociology at secondary level and worked in community development as a researcher and facilitator.
My role at LSBU combines my teaching and research expertise. I teach across UG and PG courses in education and lead our Professional Doctorate in Education. I supervise doctoral candidates with a focus on projects realted to education and social justice.

Research interests

My key research interests are around religion and worldviews in education and education for intercultural citizenship. In 2015 I co-led a project, RE for REal, which helped lay the foundation for proposed reforms to the subject to make it more inclusive and connected to the changing religion & worldview landcape.
Current projects include Understanding the Interplay: Worldviews, Education & Lived Citizenship, in partnership with UCL/IOE, in which we explore student conecptions of citizenship and the value of a 'worldveiews appraoch' in education. This is supported by an international research partnership with colleagues in Norway, Sweden and Canada.
