Personal profile

Overview

I lead LSBU's commitment to decolonise the curriulum, research and practices. I work closely with course teams, professional services, student union and academic support teams to deliver LSBU's institutional vision of decolonising. Through evidence based action research, I develop critical decolonial resources for staff and students to  move from a position of 'not racist' to 'actively anti-racist'.

Background: I am a post-partition subject of the British Empire. Born and brought up in the post-colonial hinterlands of Assam in India, I have traversed academic paths from commerce and mathematics to gender studies and racial justice.

I am a feminist decolonial scholar and a gender rights activist from the Global South. Alongside my role at LSBU, I am pursuing a PhD at SOAS, University of London.
My PhD project is a culmination of a decade of work in the gender and development space in the Global South. Prior to joining LSBU, I worked as a Policy Specialist on Women's Economic Rights at Action Aid UK. I have also worked with Oxfam, Global Partnership for Education, Global Fight Inequality Alliance and with State Government's in India, National and Regional Women's Rights organisations and community based organisations in India.
