Overview

I am a visiting professor at LSBU, retiring from an established post in 2016. I previously worked in HRM at Esso Petroleum and the South London Training Centre for Small Firms Training (Director).Consultant roles have included the Equality Authority (Dublin), SME Institute (Valencia), Manpower Services Commission SC focusing on SME training.
I have specialised in research and consultancy on HRM in Spain and am fluent in Spanish.
My involvement in this area has included a focus on trade unions and training, trade union strategies for renewal, employment relations in small firms, occupational health and safety, and work life balance.

Research Interests

My main research interest is employment relations. In recent years, research involvement in this area has included a focus on trade unions and training, trade union strategies for renewal, employment relations in small firms, occupational health and safety, and work life balance. I have a particular interest in employment relations in Spain and Iber-america. My research has been supported financially by the European Union, ACCA and the British Academy.
I have won prizes for research papers from the CIPD and Human Resource Development International.
I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, the British Universities Industrial Relations Association and the Accounting, Auditing Research Centre (Brunel University).
