Overview

I am an Associate Professor in Sport Psychology in the School of Applied Sciences and a member of the Sport and Exercise Science Research Centre. I am the module leader for psychology modules across all levels of of the sport and exercise subject area. I am the Associate Dean for Education and Student Experience. I joined LSBU in 2014 having previously worked for 8 years as a Senior Psychologist and Researcher at ASPETAR, FIFA Centre of Excellence in Qatar.

Research Interests

My External activities include being a member of the scientific panel of the African Confederation of Football (CAF) Medical Committee and the International Post -Graduate Research Advisory Panel at the University of Pernambuco in Brazil
My research interest is in the effect of different environmental conditions on human health and performance. My research focuses on the effect of heat, cold and altitude on cognitive function and its impact on sport performance. My work is published in internationally recognised Journals (https://openresearch.lsbu.ac.uk/researcher/806w3/dr-nadia-gaoua) and I supervise PhD programmes within my area of expertise.
My recent research projects include the investigation of hypoxic training for overweight-to-obese adults. I am currently working on two new research projects. The first investigates the effect of cooling strategies in cycling performance and the second explores the impact of youth sport participation in the prevention of antisocial behaviour, crime and gang membership.
