Personal profile

Overview

I am a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering, a Chartered Civil Engineer recognised by the Engineering Council and a Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, United Kingdom (CEng MICE). I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
I teach Engineering Surveying, Structures & Construction Technology A, and Materials & Geology.

Research Interests

I am currently an Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Further Learning Exam Script Marker, a member of The Royal Society’s International Exchanges Panel, and a member of the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Talent Peer Review College.
I am passionate about sustainable materials for road pavements and sustainable and smart drainage systems because of my previous industry and research experience that are in these areas.

My ongoing research focuses on:
1. The reduction of carbon emissions in road construction through the development of a new low-carbon road pavement system in partnership with an industrial partner,
2. Optimisation of sustainable drainage systems for managing quantity and quality of runoff, and
3. Development of a smart drainage management system that enables proactive maintenance instead of current reactive maintenance in partnership with an industrial partner.

In addition, I am the Director of Studies of three PhD projects:

  • A fully funded PhD project entitled “Evaluation of Long-term Durability of a Low-Carbon Road Pavement Infrastructure”.
  • A PhD project entitled "Influence of Various Recycled Concrete Aggregates and Steel Fibres on the Structural Behaviour of Continous Beams", and
  • A PhD project entitled "Integrating Smart Technologies and MCDA for Climate-resilient Sustainable Drainage Systems"

Recently completed projects include the Institution of Structural Engineers funded project entitled “Improving the Durability and Sustainability of Reinforced Concrete using Carbonated Aggregates and BFRP Reinforcement” and a consultancy for Roadfill Limited.
