Research Interests
I am a lecturer of Business Negotiations and Communication in the Business School and London South Bank University since January 2023. I graduate from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow with a BA in business with distinction, followed by a first-class honours degree in Hospitality and Tourism with Management Science. After completing my undergraduate degrees, I continued my studies at the Graduate School of Business, at the University of Cape Town by completing an M.Phil. in Inclusive Innovation.
My main research interests consider organisations with a social purpose balance competing institutional logics and resource allocation; how these organisations create social value; and understanding, rationalising and learning from failure. The research for my M.Phil. took place in the context of an Education Technology social enterprise in rural South Africa considering non-use of technology in classrooms. My thesis explored the difficulty social enterprises face in managing disintegrated social and commercial logics. Ultimately, social and commercial logics which are not aligned can cause organisations to speculatively spend resources in seek of financial sustainability, leading to a failure to achieve either.
I have a background in education in multiple domains from vocational and professional training in hospitality to becoming an Academic Tutor and Manager at an International Foundation College in London. In the latter, I led foundation modules at levels, 3, 4 and 6 and took an active role in the business and social science department by leading and supporting colleagues to use an interactive, accessible learning content platform, H5P. This is correlated with an increase in tutors applying active learning pedagogies and student engagement and outcomes as a result. In December 2022, I was awarded a PGCHE through the University of London.
