Mr Robert Tunmore

I am a senior lecturer in mental health nursing. I joined LSBU in January 2020 where I work two days a week. I completed my Post Graduate Diploma in Education for Health Care Professionals in the early ‘90s, having trained as a mental health nurse at The Bethlem Royal and Maudsley Hospitals. I have worked in senior regional and national roles at NHS England, the Department of Health, The Institute of Psychiatry/King’s College London, and Plymouth University.

I teach the on the BSc Mental Health Nursing programme, modules ‘Assessing needs and Planning Care,’ and the research related module ‘Implementing Best Practice.’
For the other three days, I work for Cavell Nurses’ Trust, a national charity that supports nurses, midwives, and healthcare assistants through tough times.
I am interested in the mental health and wellbeing of health care staff. My recent research has focused on the relationship between mental health, debt and financial concerns among nurses midwives and healthcare assistants, and how to provide effective support to those facing a crisis.
At the Royal College of Nursing Congress 2022, I was proud to launch the findings of our survey on financial hardship, with features in national news and nursing press.
During the pandemic I was involved in making a short, animated documentary about an important role model - ‘Edith,’ the life and work of Edith Cavell, 1865-1915.
