I have published research on game fiction, esports, the history of games and sports, raising awareness of ecological issues through games, pedagogy in games teaching, parody and irony in games, the spectatorship of AI playing against AI, and new methodologies for critical game analysis.
I am a peer reviewer for the games and culture journal and have experience editing and collaborating on research papers with other researchers.
I am currently supervising 3 games PhDs based at Falmouth university
I currently lead the Game Design and Development course at London South Bank University. I have almost decade of experience in teaching, course development, research supervision, and pedagogic practice. I primarily teach on the theory components of the course as well as game design and playtesting practice. I'm familiar with many research methods, as well as how they can be practically applied to both game analysis and development. He also supervises on team-working modules to help build team working skills more broadly, an essential employable skill for the games industry.
I am also a strong advocate for accessibility and believe it should be a key design consideration for games as well as education, helping players and students with and without disabilities access the best possible experiences.
