Dr Rosetta West

I am a Registered Nurse, Nurse Educator, and Senior Lecturer, combining experience across clinical practice, education, quality improvement, and related research since I qualified in 1983. 

In 2002, I was awarded an MA in Education at Thames Valley University (University of West London) and became a Nurse Educator with registered teacher's status. I have extensive knowledge, practice, clinical and academic experience in adult general medical nursing, older people’s services, education of internationally educated Registered Nurses, diabetes management from a generalist perspective, anti-racist, decoloniality, health equality, equity and health justice, and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and sustainability. I was awarded a Professional Doctorate from London Southbank University in 2016, related to the thesis entitled, “Senior Nursing lecturers’ understanding of Education for Sustainable Development: A Phenomenographic study”. 

Education Delivery
I joined London South Bank University in 2005, delivering and facilitating learning in nursing, medical and pharmacological pre- and post-registration, public health, health promotion, nursing research,  evidence-based modules, and nurse leadership modules. I also manage and deliver the Diabetes Management CPD Module.

My doctoral thesis, entitled: 'Senior Lecturers' Understanding of Education for Sustainable Development: A Phenomenographic study', addresses how Nurse Senior Lecturers understand and implement sustainable actions.  This also draws on decolonisation-related issues of ESD and a justice-oriented approach to health. 

I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I am also an Academic Link Lecturer in collaboration with Health Trust partners, working jointly to deliver the Nursing & Midwifery Council standards for Pre and Post-registration Education and Practice.

I am supervising 2 Doctoral Students. I have supervised approximately 25 Masters Students to their successful completion. I currently supervise MSc students while undertaking the Epigeum Research Integrity Course as a supervisor. I am also an Ethics Committee Reviewer.

My citizenship extends to being a judge for the Nursing Times Dame Elizabeth Aniomwu Award. I have served as a Coach for the Council of Deans 150 Leaders Programme 2023-2024, with recognised success and awarded Student Nurses and Student Midwives. I am a long-standing member of the London South Bank EquiNet (BAME & Ally) & Race Equality charter staff network. I am a Rotarian and contribute as an Ambassador to other international charities. I am currently an elected Royal College of Nursing London Board member.

I was awarded MA with Merit having followed an approved programme in Learning and Teaching in Healthcare. The Dissertation, "Interprofessional teaching and learning: A Problem-based learning approach".   

I was awarded a Professional Doctorate from London Southbank University in 2016 related to the thesis entitled, “Senior Nursing lecturers’ understanding of Education for Sustainable Development: A Phenomenographic study”. 

In 2016, I was also Awarded the Higher Education Academy Senior Fellow Cerificate. Following this award, I supported several colleagues to achieve both Fellow and Senior Fellow Awards.

I have published several articles and contributed to “Understanding pharmacology and introducing medicines management. In: Moorley, C. Introduction to Nursing for First Year Students, SAGE, Learning Matters pp. 169-204”, which is used as a key resource for 1st year adult pre-registration student nurses at several national Universities. 

As a panel member for doctoral students’ research progression (RES) and an ethics committee reviewer for the Institute’s Research Ethics Committee, I have contributed to and actively engaged with research. 

I have supervised and supported a number of masters students with work based dissertations and systematic reviews. I am currently supervising of 2 postgraduate doctoral candidates (Natasha N. Garraway Charles & Olugbemga Amusan) and 2 Master's students Sharon R. Aidoo & Enuoma Jonathan Chidi), as I continue to be research active. 

In addition to supervision of postgraduate students and doctoral candidates, I teach and facilitate learning on several research and evidence-based nursing modules, such as introducing evidence-based nursing practice, implementing best practice, and leading the level 7 Research module (Adult Nursing field).

I am the Module Lead for the Stand Alone Continuous Professional Development Diabetes Management at levels 6 and 7 from a Generalist Registered Nurse perspective. 

I am the Post Graduate Diploma Adult field Module Lead for the Research Methods at level 7.
