Personal profile

Overview

I am an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science and Digital Technologies. I am responsible for employability and student experience within the School.

I served as the EDI Lead for the School of Engineering and have worked with external organisations to make Engineering and Tech a diverse and inclusive place. Within the University, I have a Group wide responsibility for academic enrichment, in particular to support South Bank Academies.

Research Interests

Previously, I was a Lecturer in Computing at the University of Wollongong from July 2002 to March 2005. I was Course Director for a Masters programme, which was taught offshore in Hong Kong and included an Industry component. I had the additional responsibility for managing the postgraduate dissertations, working with link tutors in Hong Kong to ensure successful completion of the dissertations. I served a member of the School's Education Committee and participated in new course development. Whilst at Wollongong, I completed the required teaching and learning certification.
My research interest is in educational technology and in particular courseware engineering. Upon completing my undergraduate degree, I started my academic career in 1996 as a research assistant and courseware developer on a Teaching and Learning Technology Programme (TLTP) funded project involving seven UK Higher Education institutions. I was responsible for the production of courseware for Systems Analysis and Design subject area, working with an academic team at London South Bank University. This project received further funding to investigate dissemination networks and collaborative tools to improve student engagement.
I completed my PhD research in Courseware Engineering; and my thesis was entitled "Integrating Courseware into Collaborative Learning Environments" (completed Nov 2006).
