Miss Sumaya Ahmed

Personal profile

Overview

I am a senior lecturer of Chiropractic in the School of Allied and Community Health (ACH). Since joining LSBU in 2021 I have taught across the Division of Allied Health, in physiology and in the extended programme for the School of Health and Social Care.
As well as my teaching and learning role I have experience in the following: community engagement and marketing lead for the student-led Chiropractic clinic in Croydon, admissions and outreach.

Research Interests

My interests are in marginalised communities, such as minoritised ethnic students and those who come from low socio-economic backgrounds. I have researched how this can affect their engagement and attendance within an educational setting.
Teach First trained me and gave me the opportunity to teach science in a secondary and post-16 setting, working with these young students grew my passion further.
My past research projects have included understanding what leads to disengagement in BAME boys in secondary education.
I am a peer reviewer for the following journals/networks:
Chiropractic Educators Research Forum
Equity in education and society
