PERSONAL OVERVIEW

A Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing, Registered Nurse (Adult), Registered Nurse teacher with a MSc Advanced Health care practice, PG Dip Education, Senior fellowship HEA award and ENB Higher award. I have extensive experience in both nurse education and clinical practice. I am committed to delivering high-quality education and patient care, with a strong passion for supporting students throughout their course. I am student-centred and adopt a pedagogical approach to education that prioritises innovation, inclusivity and meaningful learning experiences for students.

KEY SKILLS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

I lead the Care of the Deteriorating Adult Patient CPD module ,4–5 times per academic year, supporting approx. 80-100 students. I include a range of experiential learning opportunities including simulation events (medium and high fidelity)/ OMS, lectures and clinical skills. I seek student and peer feedback to ensure clinical currency of the module I have developed relationships with Trust partners and External examiners to ensure the module is attractive to the NHS market. I have designed and delivered an online programme for a London NHS Trust aimed at updating staff in managing deteriorating patients within community settings. I seek opportunities to be adaptable and proactive in identifying areas for growth within LSBU’s portfolio, contributing to income generation and programme development.

At LSBU, I facilitate learning across Levels 4–7 that supports student progression. I adopt a problem /enquiry-based learning approach. I facilitate learning as part of a module team in the BSc Complex and Critical Care, PG Dip / MSc Enhancing and Evaluating Care, and BSc Assessing and Meeting Needs. In these modules, I explore innovative teaching approaches to learning. I have integrated SPL experiences and clinical skills to make learning real and engaging. I remain clinically current, with hands-on experience in emergency care, critical care, and first responder roles which assist me integrate theory and practice into learning opportunities for LSBU learners. I work collaboratively with NHS England / Health Education England delivering an innovative online eLearning course focused on recognising and managing the deteriorating patient. I actively seek students views of their education and involve them in decision-making about their learning.

As an experienced Senior Lecturer, I have significant leadership experience, having held roles as Course Leader, Clinical Manager, Cohort Lead, and Field Chair. I take a proactive leadership role in supporting less experienced staff. I support peers to develop ideas for simulation activities and clinical skills enhancement. I am passionate about simulation-based education and facilitating immersive learning experiences that support clinical reasoning, teamwork, and patient safety. I can integrate real-life clinical experience into teaching.   I value diverse perspectives, demonstrate professionalism and adapt my approach in response to feedback and differing viewpoints.

As a Personal Tutor, I have been nominated on several occassions for Personal tutor and /or Lecturer of the year via LSBU Eductional awards.  I work closely with NHS Trust partners to ensure student retention and success.  I attend tripartite meetings to support students in their placement journey. These innovative interventions have strengthened partnerships with clinical placement providers and promoted successful student progression when appropriate. My approach is inclusive, student-focused, and aligned with service and stakeholder priorities, ensuring that education remains relevant, responsive, and impactful. I actively promote and embody the values and ethos of LSBU, contributing to a positive and supportive learning culture. I am recognised as a collaborative team member, effective communicator, and supportive supervisor. I bring a “big picture” perspective to education.

Top of Form

I have previously demonstrated strong adaptability and leadership during periods of significant change, particularly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Working within NMC emergency standards, I rapidly transitioned teaching to online platforms, developing and delivering virtual modules using Skype and later MS Teams. I also supported colleagues in developing confidence and competence in digital teaching methods. During this time, I continued to deliver education for recognising and managing deterioration, contributed to publications, and supported workforce development needs by running the CPD module online. Now in 2026 this is custom and practice for many study days or modules I facilitate. However, this was a steep learning curve that shows a can-do approach to meeting education and practice demands.

Recent innovations in my career are that I gained secondment to the simulation team to review adult nursing simulation activities, whilst continuing to deliver CPD and BSc and PG Dip modules.  I am actively involved in evaluating and enhancing simulation-based education, ensuring alignment with NMC standards. I am contributing to simulation and skills curriculum development. Having previously written clinically focused modules, I utilise these skills in LSBU curriculum review. I am participating in two curriculum subgroups (SPL and skills). I participated in an educational walk through with CRIT/DEL team of a BSc module to explore development areas for larger group facilitation. I am working with a member of CRIT/DEL team to explore a new initiative of a patients journey in NHS services for ideas for the new curriculum. I have critically reviewed for peers, LSBU new initiatives of alternative field, conflict resolution and “boot camp” for students.

I am currently leading the implementation of Oxford Medical Simulation (OMS) within Adult Nursing. This includes embedding OMS into the adult nursing curriculum, collaborating with staff in its use, and facilitating student learning across BSc/ PG Dip and MSc Adult Nursing pathways. In this project, I work closely with the simulation team at LSBU and OMS UK representative to advance both my own expertise and that of colleagues.

CLINICAL EXPERTISE

Alongside my academic role at LSBU, I currently work as a First Responder for a local NHS Ambulance Trust, responding to 999 calls via ambulance control and delivering immediate, life-saving care to patients in the community. I am a Scheme Coordinator, educator, and mentor for new Community First Responders (CFRs), supporting their transition into practice. In this role, I facilitate learning, deliver simulation-based training, and conduct requalification assessments within the team. I am a qualified assessor with Future-Qual. I maintain clinical currency through regular updates These include annual skills reviews, requalification processes, thus ensuring my practice remains safe, evidence-based, and aligned with current NMC and NHS standards. I also do CCOT shifts when able to ensure that I maintain my own clinical skills .

My clinical background spans a wide range of specialties, including acute medicine, trauma and orthopaedics, critical care, and Accident & Emergency. As a Sister in A&E, I developed leadership and decision-making skills in a range of high-pressure environments. I have also undertaken Critical Care Outreach shifts, supporting colleagues to deliver care to deteriorating patients across hospital settings. I have contributed to service development and innovation, notably co-developing a nurse-led A&E assessment unit in collaboration with an A&E Consultant. This initiative, delivered with a team of advanced skilled nurses, enhanced patient flow and improved outcomes within the Emergency Department. In the clinical area, I have extensive experience delivering education across undergraduate and advanced clinical practice programmes. I have authored 14 book chapters to date and contributed to a range of educational initiatives. I have presented and co-facilitated learning at international conferences, including SimTrain (Barcelona) and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) via CANVAS and Health Education England .
