Dr Tracey Davanna

I am a lecturer in Criminology in the Division of Social Sciences having joined LSBU in 2019. I currently teach a number of modules including Policing and Society (Level 5) and Deconstructing the Crime Problem (Level 4).

My research focuses on examining and understanding frictions and conflicts in rural/urban space, drawing on bodies of knowledge including illegal foxhunting and the normalisation of exclusionary practices. This also informs on land rights and privileges. My research is empirically informed, drawing on the expertise of activists including hunt saboteurs and those communities whose voices are often ignored, yet from which solutions are to be found. I am part of a wider international network examining the criminalisation of activism, explored through multiple means including the use of police powers that intersect classism, privilege and other intersecting sites of power.  I am co-lead of the Working Group on Policing and Security at the European Group and co-lead of the JCAC Research Group.
