Overview

I am an educationist, researcher, academician, clinician and a leader

I am a senior lecturer with educational responsibilities for designing, teaching and assessing undergradute and postgraduate nursing courses, and supervising postgraduate dissertations. I apply critical and inclusive pedagogies for active learner-tutor collaboration and learner success. I have taught at secondary schools in two countries in Africa. This has grounded my teaching expereince at different academic levels and geographic regions.

I have academic/educational research interests and publications in social justice nursing practice and education, equitable health and education, language diversity, health promotion and public health, and qualittaive and grounded theory research. I also have clinical research interests include prostate cancer, benign prostate conditions, and decision-making about cancer care.   

I am a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy and demonstrate professional commitment to teaching, learning and student expereince. My internal and external presentations on critical learning, social justice and linquicism demonstrates my leadership in these areas. 

I have clinical specialist expereince in investigating and treating benign and malignant prostate diseases. I also have nursing expereince in treating different solid cancers with chemotherapy, radiotherapy and palliative care. 

I have had esteem recognitions in the forms of research/academic sabbatical at the University of Calgary, Canada, an Early Career Researcher representative, a member of the England Chief Nursing Officer's Faces of Nursing and midwifery Research, external examiner for postgraduate and undergraduate courses at three universities in the UK, a textbook contract with SAGE Pubishers, peer-reviewer of textbooks for SAGE publishers, and peer-reviewer for different nursing and other academic journals.

I have held several leadership roles including president and secretary general of the students' unions at a college/university and national body, as well as chairman/president of alums and social organisations.

I enjoy listening to current affairs radio and television programmes and DIY or doing it myself.

My academic/educational research interests include:

  • Social justice issues in nursing practice and education - 
  • Equitable and accessible health and education
  • Critical and inclusive pedagogies 
  • Qualitative and grounded theory research
  • Critical thinking and evidence-based practices
  • Health promotion and public health care 

My clinical research interests include:

  • Information support and decision-making in cancer care
  • Prostate cancer including radical and minimally invasive investigations and treatments
  • Benign prostate conditions including lower urinary tract symptoms and prostatis

Early Career Researcher representative - first point of call for the school of Health and Social Care to raise any research issues or development needs facing staff and supporting the implementation of an ECR conference and training schedule.
