Abstract

What is Social Policy?
Social policy is often referred to as social problems or societal issues. In the UK, it is how changes made by the government can address these social problems. This chapter helps you understand the history of social policy and its relevance to social work. Social policy is known to have its own disciplinary meaning; it is a school of study within itself (Cunningham and Cunningham, 2017). The University of Liverpool and the London School of Economics were the first to establish an academic school for social policy in the early twentieth century (Sinclair, 2016).
