Abstract

The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that worldwide alcohol misuse caused 1.8 million deaths in the year 2000, compared with 0.2 million from the use of illicit drugs (WHO, 2002). After smoking and high blood pressure, alcohol misuse is the global leading factor of preventable death and disability (WHO, 2002).
