Abstract
This article begins by exploring relevant UK legislation and government initiatives designed to support transition to work for young disabled people, and reflects upon their relevance, specifically for autistic individuals with additional intellectual impairments. Research from within and beyond the UK has painted a positive picture of the benefit of employment to the employee
and the workplace, whilst noting that systems to support and encourage engagement with work are somewhat patchy and often underdeveloped. At the time of writing, just after the 2017 general election, the future seems rather uncertain.
