Abstract

This chapter considers the nature of advanced practice mental health nursing linking evidence to practice. APMHNs need to use the best available evidence in their own practice and facilitate evidence-based practice in others. Hence, the authors examine conceptual frameworks and empirical evidence, in particular, the effectiveness of interventions studied. We examine the skills and capabilities advanced practice mental health nurses (APMHNs) need to assess the quality, originality, significance, rigour of evidence, as well as evidence-based methods for creating impact, using established criteria and toolkits. The authors also analyse obstacles linking evidence to practice and how APMHNs can overcome these. Finally, using clinical case studies, the authors demonstrate how APMHNs can demonstrate how they link evidence to practice.
