Abstract

Here we demonstrate the photochemical reduction of Al ³⁺ to metallic Al ⁰ nanoparticles using a ferroelectric material as the photocatalyst, in this case LiNbO ₃. This gives evidence for multi-electron photoreduction reactions and a possible route to the formation of nanostructured metal particles that has high reduction potential cations formed from the dissolution of salts.
