Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

This is the accepted manuscript version of a published work that appeared in final form in the British Journal of Cardiac Nursing, copyright (c) MA Healthcare, after technical editing by the publisher. To access the final edited and published work see http://www.magonlinelibrary.com/doi/10.12968/bjca.2017.12.8.369. Originally published August 2017. Statins are back in the spotlight this month, with the publication of a strongly worded critique of their use in the Pharmaceutical Journal (Demasi et al, 2017). This article adds further fuel to a controversy that has been raging over the past few years; are fats or sugars more important in causing cardiovascular disease, and what is the best way to reduce risk?
