Abstract
Buffering strategies of two-layer coded video in ATM switches are studied. Both layers can either use a shared buffer or separate buffers to reduce output contention. The impact of these strategies on the cell loss and delay variations between the layers is studied. An alternative method is proposed which tends to improve the switching performance and reduce the delay variations between the two layers.
