Abstract

Patients with persistent cervical spine pain (PCSP) have significant socio-economic costs associated affecting families, communities, employers and health care systems. Uni-modal and multi-modal management strategies employed within physiotherapy have limited long term clinical impact on pain, function and/or disability in PCSP. This may be attributed to unrevealed mechanisms within the peripheral and central nervous systems that alter the transduction and processing of sensory inputs associated with the experience of pain.
