Abstract

There continues be a high proportion of asthma mortality in the UK despite updated guideline from NICE (2017) and BTS/SIGN (2019) on asthma management, with greater incidence of death recorded among ethnic minorities (INHALE, 2023). Asthma deaths increased to 1261 in 2020, from 1202 in 2019. Despite rising theoretical data on the increasing incidence of asthma mortality among minority ethnic groups (Hull et al. 2016; Sheikh et al. 2016), no current research appears to be tracking the amount of asthma fatalities among this population or how deaths can be prevented. McQuaid (2018) and Tackett et al. (2021) discussed the many factors that contribute to an increase in asthma fatalities among ethnic minorities. These factors include a lack of asthma knowledge, ethnic beliefs, clinician patient interaction, over-prescription of SABA, under-prescription of Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS), and drug adherence.
