Abstract

This chapter discusses a project aimed at supporting the mental health and wellbeing of actors in training, drawing on the work of seminal acting teacher Konstantin Stanislavski. The project employs Nadine George Voice Work® (NGVW) to help actors enter the alpha state, a relaxed and creative mental space. The alpha state is explored as a means to enhance creativity and intuition, which are crucial for actors’ performances. Techniques from NGVW, including breathwork and dynamic meditation, are highlighted for their potential to harmonise the mind and body, promoting both mental and physical wellbeing. Three students share their experiences of participating in NGVW workshops and describe how they apply the techniques learned to support their acting practice and emotional wellbeing.
