Abstract

© 2016 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.Performance psychology is a large and multifaceted field of inquiry. In this Chapter, I introduce the building blocks of performance. From the classic distribution of concepts in action, cognition, perception, and emotion, I will select a subset of processes that will be needed for the theoretical, methodological, and applied chapters that follow. I present a table of phenomena and building blocks that will guide the reader on what areas of performance psychology will be covered in this book. A main emphasis of the chapter is on (a) describing building blocks of performance, specifically action, perception, cognition, and emotion, and (b) outlining the content of the sections of the book. Future avenues will guide the reader toward performance psychology and scientific insight.
