Abstract
ABSTRACT
Although literature regarding strategic management of human resources is varied and extensive in empirical studies that attempt to measure the strategic contribution of human capital, those that use economic and financial indicators for their measurement are few in number. In this publication, we intend to demonstrate how a specific variable of measurement regarding the investment in human capital has a significant impact on the innovative capacity of a firm. Our work also analyzes the evolution of these indicators in several European countries and sectors. Using a sample of 813 companies belonging to the AMADEUS database, we found that the profitability of human capital does not follow a similar trend as compared to the other economic and financial indicators, thus we emphasize the existence of a relationship between this profitability and the capacity of innovation that a company possess. These findings reveal the possibility for new research that links investment in human capital to the strategic development of the company.
