Abstract

As cities across the world continue to densify, consideration of the situations, ways, or places where urban infrastructure and metro systems come together, affect each other, and are managed in the long-term (25+ years) (the interfaces), becomes an increasing need. However, there is a current paucity of professional and academic discussion of these topics, within civil engineering, transport and land use literature.

This paper, briefly discusses the current gap in discussion of the interfaces between urban metro systems and their environment; what the interfaces are potential effects of not comprehending the interfaces; the processes of the LA Metro Development Review Team in managing the interfaces. The paper concludes with an argument that there is a need for greater professional and academic discussion of the long term-effects of the interfaces of urban metro infrastructure on their environment. Moreover, more benchmarking of how those interfaces are managed would be beneficial for urban current and future urban sustainability.
