Abstract
Concerns on tropospheric ozone (O3) have heightened recently because of its effects on the climate, leading to numerous health problems. Atmospheric conditions such as temperature enhance O3 formation and increases air pollution concentration. This study analyzes the trend of ozone (O3) and its relationship with temperature as a meteorological parameter in the tropical rainforest climate region of Malaysia. The region has no pronounced summer or winter seasons with rainfall usually throughout the year. The distinct weather condition has an influence in the air quality pattern of this area. Linear regression analysis was used to determine the relationship between air pollutant concentration (O3) and meteorological parameter (temperature). The result ascertained a strong relationship between O3 and temperature, with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.84. The Pearson correlation (r) also showed a significant positive relationship having r value of 0.92. Subsequently, time series plot was used to illustrate the trend pattern of both O3 and temperature. It can be plausibly stated that temperature has a strong relationship with O3 concentration especially in tropical rainforest climate region of Malaysia.
